Singing Back The Memories
Firstly, we would like to make it clear – they are not a choir!
It’s a group of people who are living with or caring for
someone with dementia, who enjoy coming together, belting out their favourite
tunes and having a laugh in-between.
Listening to music can really help improve quality of life
for a person living with dementia. Research shows music can help reduce heart
rate, blood pressure, relieve muscle tension and can help people manage pain.
It can also trigger endorphins (the hormones that make you happy) which in turn
can ease depression, agitation and anxiety.
Music has also been proven to help improve attention span,
concentration, cognitive thinking, memory, speech and non-verbal communication.
Singing can help a person living with dementia connect with
the past by evoking memories, feelings and emotions that they might otherwise
find hard to express.
If you enjoy singing (even if you can’t sing!) and having a
good laugh with a group of like-minded people, why not give Singing Back the Memories
a try!
The Singing Back The Memories group takes place in the following areas:
- Northfleet
- Dartford
- Swanley
