Volunteering Opportunities

We have a super team of volunteers at ADSS.

Our primary aim is to help people to remain living in their own home for as long as possible and to support their carers throughout their caring role and beyond, even after that role has ended.

Our Charity is growing and we are developing new services for local people with dementia and their Carers. As a result of this growth, we need the help of more volunteers.

In return for their time ADSS offers training, ongoing support and opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.

Our volunteers have a real sense of doing something worthwhile for their community. Travel expenses are paid and refreshments are provided where appropriate.

Please note that Discloure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are taken up for all staff and volunteers.

Dementia Buddy Scheme - Medway NHS Trust

Dementia Buddys provide a friendly face, a listening ear and companionship as well as support during mealtimes to patients living with dementia at Medway Maritime Hospital. The buddys are fully trained volunteers who have the qualities and skills that are necessary when engaging positively with people with dementia. The buddies spend time on the ward giving quality time and helping to make a considerable positive difference to the overall hospital experience for the patients as well as providing some reassurance to families that their loved ones will have a visitor when they cant be there.

If you feel that you can give just 4 hours a week and become part of our Dementia Buddy Scheme at Medway Maritime Hospital please call Nicola or Jackie on 07535 121985 / 07939 308573

Peer Support Volunteers Dartford and/or Gravesend

Two Peer Support groups are being set up, one in Dartford & the other in Gravesend. They will be groups which support people recently diagnosed and at the early stages of dementia. The peer support group meets twice a month for two hours. We need two volunteers at each venue to assist the facilitator.

Singing for the Brain Volunteers – Wilmington

'Singing for the Brain' is designed for people with dementia and their carers, giving them a structured singing session with simple percussion exercises to stimulate the brain and give carers and those they care for the opportunity to share an interesting activity they can do and enjoy together. The group runs on Tuesday afternoons. We require two volunteers to support the facilitator of the group. Non singers are most welcome!

Carer Support Group, Farningham

This group meets over lunch in Farningham every six weeks. It is an opportunity for people with dementia and their carers to have a relaxed, social time as well as having the opportunity to share concerns and worries in a supportive, non-judgmental setting. One volunteer is needed to support the facilitator.

Day Care Helpers

Volunteers join our staff team and help run activities at our day care centre in Northfleet such as Snooker, indoor bowls, table tennis, cards, music, art and conversation. Lunch is provided and out of pocket expenses are paid.

Minibus Drivers

Minibus drivers collect clients from their homes and drive them to the day centre and then take them home again at the end of the day. An escort is always in attendance on the minibus. A KCC minibus driving course is mandatory to attend and paid for by us.

Support Group Helpers

Support Group helpers provide carers with the opportunity to talk, whether it is just a chat or the chance to discuss a particular difficulty that they may be experiencing in caring for a person with dementia. Volunteers also make refreshments for the group and organise social events.
